Project 01/06

Buildsurv was engaged by Cox Architecture in 2018 to look at the feasibility of constructing a hotel against the side of the already iconic Adelaide Oval. The project involved placing a 5 storey hotel building over an existing basement carparking area and linking it directly to the Oval’s function spaces and corporate suites.

The building was the first hotel to use Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) to reduce the buildings structural load on the substructure below and to facilitate construction times. During the project we works closely with the builder Built Environs and the fire engineering team at J Squared to deliver the approvals in stages to meet the tight deadline and architectural intent.

The design result was that the hotel now blends in seamlessly with the Oval structure providing unparallel views of the parklands to the east and direct access to arguably the best viewing stadium in the world.

Buildsurv provided Building Certification for the project and additional sub-consultancies in Disability Access.
